Crazy About Kits!- Week 4 (Altered Star)

Very cute little star! This is a small ornament size star, but you could also purchase a larger one to cover and hang on the wall. I'm keeping mine as a decoration on my shelf in the computer room. I purchased another one to alter, but I think I'm going to wait and possibly cover it with Christmas paper for the holidays.

Crazy About Kits!- Week 4 (Altered Clipboard)

Today I altered my first clipboard. I've seen this done a bunch of times online, but I've never done it myself. It was fun! All the paper is adhered on the clipboard using Mod Podge. After everything was in place I put a light layer of Mod Podge over the top to give it a nice sheen and seal it on. To brighten it up a little I added a few Prima Flowers with brads and a ribbon to tie a pen to. To my amazement the crop-a-dile went through the clipboard!!! That thing is amazing!

Crazy About Kits!- Week 4 (1 photo layout)

I just love this photo! I wanted to capture the 'face behind the mask' and journal about how special the moment was. Layering all the paper added a really easy, different way to mat the photo.

Crazy About Kits!- Week 4 (3 photo layout)

I was a little unsure about putting everything a little askew, but I really like it. Very fun page to create!

Crazy About Kits!- Week 4

This weeks first assignment was to "create your own kit". Go shopping!!!! Fun, fun, fun... While the boys went to a football game I headed over to the local scrapbooking store and picked out my supplies for this week.

With all the leaves changing and autumn colors all around, I used that as my inspiration point--oranges, browns, greens. I tried to stay away from using a whole line and really tried to mix and match with different companies. Here's what I came up with:

1 sheet Fancy Pants- Fancy True Paper: Natural
1 sheet Fancy Pants- Fancy True Paper: True-Blue
1 sheet The Robins Nest- Fall Plaid/Stripe
1 sheet Basic Grey- Stella Ruby: Ladies Book Club
1 sheet Basic Grey- Stella Ruby: Coffee with Dessert
1 sheet Imaginisce- Out on a Whim: Sweet Pea
1 sheet Brown Pinked Cardstock (brand??)
Rusty Pickle- Cap'n Jack Alphabet Stickers
Creative Impressions- Matte Heritage Mini-Round Fasteners (100)

Many of the colors match well with the Basic Grey- Mellow line I just used, so I will also draw some of the ribbons and buttons I have leftover from that.

Total cost= $12.31

I wish that I had taken a picture of everything before getting started, but I didn't. I could wait!

Crazy About Kits!- Week 3 (DONE!)

For week 3 I purchased the Basic Grey- Mellow Collection from the brand new MemoryWorks Product Supplement Catalog. Here's a picture of the paper and a list of everything I started with:
  • Theme Set: 8 sheets of cardstock patterned paper, 1 sheet of 2" die-cut monograms, and 1 sheet of coordinating die-cut shapes
  • Mini-Monogram letters *not pictured
  • Ribbon- 5 yards *not pictured
  • Buttons- 1/4 cup assorted sizes *not pictured
Total MemoryWorks cost= $24.00

Here's what I created out of the kit:

  • 3 12x12 layouts (1 2-page layout)
  • 3 cards
  • Brothers mini album
  • Altered box
Here's a picture of what I have left:
I loved playing with this kit! I would highly recommend it to everyone!

Crazy About Kits!- Week 3 (Altered Box)

The last project of week 3 is altering a gift box. Because I used up so much of my paper this week the hardest part was finding a small box! I finally found a small card box with a hint of sage green--a perfect match to my paper! I decided to go pretty simple and basic with this. The paper is so pretty that I didn't think I needed to add any stickers or anything--just a few buttons. I haven't decided if I want to give this away or keep it for myself!!

Crazy About Kits!- Week 3 (mini book)

My second mini book! I think I'm hooked! I love making them. They are quick to assemble and super fun to flip through. I'm thinking about getting a small basket to put all my mini albums in to place in the living room. Fun stuff for guests and family members to look through.

Anyway....for this mini album I decided to do something fun! I have so many pictures of the boys together. Although I'm trying to do a layout for each event or photo, I thought it would be fun to put a bunch of them together. A book to show the "brotherly love" they have for one another.

First I cut raw chipboard, rounded corners, and painted black. I then decorated the pages using the Basic Grey- Mellow line. For continunity, I etched a frame on each photo. After the pages were done I punched a hole in the left corner with my Crop-a-dile and tied together with ribbon.

Crazy About Kits!- Week 3 (Cards)

I love the simplicity of these cards. I decided to duplicate the design and just change up the paper and embellishments. They literally took me about 20 minutes (or less) to make, but yet they are so classy! It's hard to see in the picture, but the front of the card is cut about 1/2 to 1" short on the right. This gives a gimpse at the inside patterned paper on the front.

Crazy About Kits!- Week 2 (Done!)

I've finished all the assignments for week 2 of the class--AND I still have a lot of supplies left!!! These MemoryWorks Express Kits can go a loooong way.

For $35 I created:
3 layouts (1 2-page layout)
5 cards
decrative photo cube

But that's not all!!! This is what I have left:3 full sheets of patterned paper
2 pieces of orange cardstock
various sizes of patterned scraps
misc. stickers
misc. letter stickers
clear overlay
journaling card
3 small pieces of ribbon

I have plenty to do 2-3 more pages after Halloween this year, maybe some tags, and cards.

Crazy About Kits!- Week 3 (1 photo layout)

This is my all time FAVORITE LAYOUT up to this point!!!!! I LOVE how it turned out! I have to admit it took me a little while to complete, but it was worth it. The layering effect really makes things pop. Elements used in this layout: patterned paper, inking, acrylic stamps, Coluzzle cut tag, sewing on buttons, hand cut photo corner, flower, clear overlay. Fun layout to create and enjoy!

Crazy About Kits- Week 3 (4 photo layout)

I decided to go pretty basic on this one. I used a whole sheet of patterned paper for the background--no cardstock! I've been using a lot of cardstock for my base lately, but thought I'd change it up. Since I'm covering most of the page with pictures, it really doesn't make it too busy. My plan is to create a 5x7 single picture layout on the opposite side showing a picture of the completed shed.

Crazy About Kits: Week 3 (2-page layout)

For the week 3 assignments I will be using the new Basic Grey- Mellow line of products. I purchased the MemoryWorks theme set (paper, die cuts, monograms), ribbon, buttons, and mini monograms. I was really excited to use this "kit". The colors are so "me" with autumn accents.

I rarely do 2 page layouts that I like, but I'm really happy with this one. It's actually a pretty simple layout with little elements to it. It came together very fast! I stole a few metal hinge embellishments from a friend while on the retreat. I really need to invest in more metal--I love it! I also really like the cut-out frame. I should try that more often.

Lego Plane Layout

This layout started with a sketch from Pagemaps.com but then evolved into this! Since I had extra time Friday night I decided to sew around the green edge to add a little "something". Journaling continues on the backside of the pull out tag.

8x10 Photo layout

Here is another layout that uses some of the items I created during my Creativity: A Daily Dose class--the photo tag and journaling tag. Combined with the 8x10 photo it really brings that page together. This is a good way to complete just a little at a time. Create the tags during a spare 15 minutes one night. This way when you go to complete the layout it doesn't take very long!

Creativity: A Daily Dose- Day 30

Over the weekend I FINALLY finished the last of my "Creativity: A Daily Dose" class from September! During the coarse of the class we were given daily photo assignments. Each day we were to take a picture of various things in and around our life right now. On day 30 we were to put all these pictures together in a little brag book. All together is makes a fun little "A month in the life of Me" book. Some of the pictures seem totally random and strange, but it really represents what my life is at this moment. I would love to do this again year after year to see what kind of changes take place. 20 years from now I will look through this album and it will bring back so many memories like..."Man, I hated that sink!!!" or "I can't believe I did that!

Halloween 06- Purse Layout

I finally used the purse I created in the Creativity: A Daily Dose class! I used it in this layout to show all the pumpkin pictures from Halloween. We had lots and lots of pictures! This way I can still create a fun 1 page layout without being super busy. Those of you wondering "but how do I put this in my album with the page protectors??" Using an exacto knife, carefully cut your page protector around the purse. This makes a fun interactive page. Each pocket contains a piece of cardstock with wallet sized photos on each side.

Crazy About Kits- Week 2 (altered cube)

I'm home from my scrapbooking retreat! Wow! It was so great to relax and scrap and scrap and scrap..... I slept little, snacked lots, and got lots of projects completed! I have lots to show you! Today I will post a few projects I completed from week 2 of the Crazy About Kits class.

Altered Cube: Instead of an altered 5x7 canvas I decided to alter the cube that came with my October MemoryWorks Express Kit. This was fun! I haven't done alot of altering so it's not perfect, but I love it! I printed out 3 wallet sized Halloween photos from the past few years and left one side open to add this years photo. This will make a fun, cute decoration to put out during the Halloween season.

I plan to post a few things each day so that I don't overwhelm you with inspiration!!!! Now.....do I sleep at all or just scrap the night away????

I'll leave you with a sneak peek of November's MemoryWorks Express Kit:

Circle Journal- Favorite Color

This past summer I joined 11 other MemoryWorks consultants from across the nation in a Circle Journal Swap. Each member created a journal with a different topic in the theme of "favorites". We then send it to someone who creates a page in the journal going with the theme. The journals rotate throughout our group each month until after a year they are returned to the original sender.

This month I have received Leah's journal with the theme: Favorite Color. I decided to add "brown" to the journal. I know, I'm so boring! Why do I like brown? Here's what the journaling in the hidden tag says:

"What? Brown? Yes, brown! Why? Because it is the perfect compliment to every color. The perfect base."

Crazy About Kits!- Week 2 (3 photo layout)

Love, love, love these photos!!!! Dylan made the perfect Little Devil for Halloween. Another super easy layout. I tore the edges of the paper to give it a more distressed "spooky" look. The paper was so cute that I didn't really need to do much. I had my acrylic stamps out, but decided there was enough going on already! For an extra touch to the lettering, I added dots around each letter.

Journaling reads: "Our little devil! What a cutie! Another great costume by Grandma Patrick. You were so funny posing for the camera. Dylan- 17 months." Halloween 2004.
